Best of 2010

Oh dear blog. I know. I know. Slap me on the wrist for neglecting you!

I've been on a leave of absence... in my head. I've been squeezing myself into the tiny crawl spaces in my brain and sitting there for weeks on end until I can muster up a new wrinkle to squeeze me out on Sundays. Then back in I go. The screenplay is completed but finished it is not. Almost... "A poem is never finished" they say and so day in and day out I rack my brain for polished dialogue and ways for scenes to fit more smoothly. It must sound very romantic but I assure you... it is not! I am plagued by perfection that doesn't exist!

Hence my neglect of the blog. But she's back, folks!
In the meantime, I thought I would indulge you with some lighthearted never-before-seen footage of this last year's highlights and some moments that I will never forget.

Enjoy.

Gotta start it off with Paul getting his masters degree. He worked his tail off and I'm so proud of him!

The lowlight however, is having to leave our New Hampshire friends and allies behind.

In June we were able to explore Rome and even though we are not Catholic, we were truly blown away by THE Basilica in Vatican City.  Heaven can inspire man to create beautiful things.

And beautiful moments like this one right here. A romantic balmy evening in Rome.

The lowlight being that we got stuck inside the Vatican. There was no way out! It was like the Wonka factory. No matter which way we went we ended up in some courtyard or dead end but never an actual exit! We got so lost! Due in part of course by the incredibly bad signage that plagues Rome. When we ended up here I was about to give up and be baptized!

But no master artist is greater than God himself.

A big highlight for me was seeing a real play inside the real Ford's Theater in D.C.

And visiting Thomas Jefferson's estate, Monticello, in Virginia...

The lowlight: Learning he owned 300 slaves and housed them in tiny shacks no bigger than this foundation of stones.

I'm sure if slaves had their freedom back then they would do more opportune things with their talents like us:

Outside Rome we stayed with an Italian couple who drove us to the top of a medieval city and we couldn't believe Michele squeezed us through these extremely tight passageways with only an inch of room on each side!

My biggest highlight of 2010 was my entire England trip. The whole week I spent there was AMAZING. It didn't rain the whole time I was there. I went everywhere and I felt like I was BFF's with the entire country. This video of me and my friend Claire says it all. After hiking to the top of Frogget's Edge and looking out.... Glorious GLORIOUS countryside!

On our trip to the Grand Canyon Paul and I were on a hike and talk about being in the right place at the right time!

Oh man. During our two week stay with my mom in the Oregon mountains, Paul decided to not shave his upper lip as a joke. Everyone loved it so he kept it until we left. Without further adieu, The Man, The Myth, The Legend..........Magnum.

My mom!

Highlight! Visiting Jack White's recording studio in Nashville!

Lowlight: This creepy hotel room.

Highlight! Visiting Graceland in Memphis!

Seeing the actual "jungle room"!

Lowlight: Finding out Elvis is dead.

I've really wanted to participate in a flash mob and in December my friend Connor hooked me up with Bobby Bonsey, Seattle's premier flash mob organizer!
To view the official flash mob video click here.

Definite highlight: Texas Barbecue!

And Paul taking a picture and a cowboy in a ten gallon hat asks, "Goin' own face boooook?"

Highlight: San Antonio. 'Nuff said.

Highlight: Seeing a freaking ancient aqueduct out in the middle of nowhere in Spain!

Lowlight: Dropping and breaking my camera so the nice guy who offered to take pictures of me could capture the essence of the perfectly parallel cement walkway circa 1994.

Highlight: Discovering my mom's extensive collection of  unlocked and always loaded guns she keeps "hidden" throughout her house.

Including this pistol she always keeps in her pocket... Loaded.

Highlight: No stop in Idaho would be complete without a van ride with the Smart boys.

Highlight: Being cast in the Seattle short film, "Love and War" and meeting some of the coolest, talented filmmakers I've ever met.

Highlight: A table surrounded by laughing Italians all talking loud and with hand gestures. The local baker, cheese maker, and the guy who brought the goat we roasted and ate!

WORST. DAY. EVEEEEERRRRRRRR.
After an hour of "Let's explore!" outside our village just east of Rome,  deciding to turn around and go home after a torrential downpour, it took us ALLLLLLL DAAAAAAAAY to get back to the vineyard. First by missing the bus and having to wait for it, then taking the wrong bus then ending up somewhere random and waiting for the bus that never came then jumping on the wrong train then waiting for the other train and finally catching the train....in the wrong direction. Never. Again.

Best. Day. Ever.

And this unforgettable moment.

And this one.

And this one.

And this one.

And this one.

And this one.

Best Christmas gift EVER. Thanks sister Lynn!

Highlight: Paul starting his new job!
Lowlight: Paul starting his new job.

Highlight: Finishing the screenplay!
Lowlight: Not finishing the screenplay.

Glad you're back!...I must say we are experiencing a bit of ESP because (I kid you not) I just finished a blog that is set to post tomorrow about the good/bad that happened this week. Good thing I talk to you several times a week or I would have missed this even more. :)
